Afterglowing Design/Task/Function
Task
- Improving warming-up characteristics
- Preventing blue exhaust after a cold start
- Improving smooth engine running after a cold start
- Stabilizing cold starting speed
Function
After the engine is started, afterglowing continues as a function of the coolant temperature. The glow output stage (N14/2) receives a signal of how long afterglowing should continue from the IFI control module (N3/7) or DFI control module (N3/8). Afterglowing is continued for up to max. 180 s at a coolant temperature of (T) < 60 °C
In the event of no signal being received from the coolant temperature sensor (B11), afterglowing is terminated after 30 s.
