Without Intercooler
Design
Task
Building up boost pressure at low revs
Operation
The engine exhaust gases are passed through the exhaust manifold into the turbine housing (f) and impinge on the turbine wheel (g). The flow energy of the exhaust gases (C) causes the turbine wheel to rotate. The compressor wheel (d) which is connected to the turbine wheel by the turbine shaft (n), thus also rotates at the same speed. Maximum speed at altitudes may be as much as 180,000 rpm. The fresh air (A) sucked in by the compressor wheel is passed on to the engine after pre-compression (B)
