Back Window Glass: Service and Repair



AR67.20-P-2000K Remove/Install Rear Window

















Remove

NOTE: When cutting out the rear window, the vulcanized rubber surround is damaged. It is then necessary to install a new rear window

1 Prepare glue cartridge
- 2-component repair kit for installing glued window panes
2 Remove paneling from rear pillar
3 Remove parcel shelf
4 Disconnect electrical connections (antenna and rear window defroster) from rear window and fasten to rear window with adhesive tape
5 Losen headliner at rear for this purpose remove rear dome lamp and pull retaining clip (2)
6 Pull rubber channel (3) out of body flange at bottom and remove

DANGER: Risk of injury from slipping when clamping blade in the multicutter and from glass splinters when cutting out glued windows
- Always interrupt air supply when inserting or removing blade. Wear protective gloves and eye protection.


7 Cut off plastic frame (4) at bottom of rear window along edge of glass from outside with cutting blade

CAUTION: Avoid damaging paint

8 Cut out rear window from outside with cutting blade.

9 Remove rear window from body with suction cups

Install
10 Prepare body flange for installation of window

11 Prepare window for installation
12 Install rubber channel (3) on body flange at bottom
13 Open window in driver's door
- This prevents the rear window from being pressed outwards by the air pressure when a door is closed before the bond has completely cured
14 Apply adhesive material to rear window
- 13 Betagun 2K electric cartridge gun. See "Commercially Available Tools" given below.

NOTE: Height of adhesive bead at least 16 mm

15 Install rear window

NOTE: The waiting time (time before vehicle is driven) is approx 1 hour from the time the window is installed

CAUTION: Do not use any tensioning straps or sandbags for holding the window in place

16 Fasten headliner with clips (2) at rear and install rear dome lamp
17 Complete electrical connections (antenna and rear window defroster) to rear window
18 Install rear shelf
19 Install paneling on rear pillar
20 Clean rear window
