Vehicles With ESP
Task
The lateral acceleration sensor informs the Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Speed-Sensitive Power Steering (SPS) and Brake Assist System (BAS) control module (N47-5) on the lateral acceleration forces occurring when cornering
Design
Sensor in accordance with the spring/mass principle
Function
The measuring principle of the lateral acceleration sensor (B43) is based on a spring/mass system with a capacitive detector. The voltage is supplied via the ESP control module (N47-5).
The lateral acceleration occurring when cornering moves the spring/mass system out of its rest position to a position which corresponds to the magnitude of the lateral acceleration. Each change in position changes the electrical capacitance of the detector.
An evaluation electronics system then generates a voltage signal which depends on the capacitance and therefore on the lateral acceleration of the vehicle. This voltage signal is evaluated by the ESP. SPS and BAS control module (N47-5).
