REMOVAL

WARNING
^ Risk of fatal injury due to vehicle slipping off or tilting on the hoist
^ Align vehicle between the pillars of the hoist and position the four support plates at the hoist mounting points specified by the vehicle manufacturer

1. Remove bracket for seat belt fastening (127)
2. Remove rear axle shafts (37) at connecting flange
3. Move rear axle shaft to approximately horizontal position and push together
- Tie rear axle shaft to rear axle carrier
4. Remove propeller shaft intermediate bearing (106a)
5. Disconnect propeller shaft (108) at rear axle center assembly
6. Measure and note friction torque as follows:

- Assemble wrench socket tool No. 126 589 02 09 00 (40a) with adapter tool No. 100 589 02 59 00 (40c) and torquemeter tool No. 001 589 49 21 00 (40b), or equivalents and place on twelve point collared nut of pinion shaft
- Measure and record friction (turning) torque of pinion shaft for later assembly
7. While holding flange with pin wrench tool No. 129 589 01 07 00, or equivalent, slacken and unscrew twelve-point or hexagon collared nut (40)
- Do not unlock the staking of the twelve-point or hexagon collared nut before slackening.

NOTE: To provide better support when slackening the hexagon collared nut, press the shop-made bush (40x) into the wrench socket
8. Pull off flange (41)
- Use puller tool No. 129 589 01 33 00, or equivalent, if necessary
9. Press out radial seal ring (42) using a suitable tool

INSTALLATION
- Install in reverse sequence, noting the following information:
- Replace self-locking nuts
- Drive in new seal ring using driver 201 589 00 15 00, or equivalent
- Replace twelve point or hexagon collared nut and tighten in stages until the previously measured and recorded friction torque is reached
- Observe minimum tightening torque of greater than 180 Nm, if this is not attained Replace elastic spacer sleeve

- Lock twelve-point or hexagon collared nut using a shop made staking tool
- Replace axle to flange self-locking multi point or hexagon Allen bolts and washers and tighten to: 70 Nm
- Lightly lubricate threads of bolts and underside of bolt heads
- Check rear axle oil level fill to level with a suitable axle fluid
- Tighten the following components as noted:
- Self-locking hexagon nut, flexible disk to rear propeller shaft or rear axle center assembly
10 mm bolts: 40 Nm
12 mm bolts: 60 Nm
- Propeller shaft intermediate bearing: 30 Nm
- Nut for bracket seat belt fastening to frame floor: 260-280 Nm
