Removing And Installing Steering Wheel
Model 208 Shown:
1 Move in or push in adjustable steering column fully
2 Position steering wheel (32) horizontal (front wheels in straight-ahead position)
3 Remove ignition key and allow steering lock to lock in position
4 Remove electronic ignition key
NOTE: Electric steering column adjustment (ESC) locks
5 Disconnect battery ground cable
CAUTION:
- Protect ground cable against unintentional ground contact
- Notes for carrying out repair, body and welding work on vehicles with airbag units or emergency tensioning retractor units
6 Remove airbag unit on steering wheel
7 Unscrew countersunk screw (32c), steadying the steering wheel (32)
- Installation: Replace countersunk screw
8 Remove steering wheel, passing through the cable of the airbag unit
NOTE: Installation:Align recesses of the splines in the steering wheel with the markings on the steering shaft (arrow)
9 Check horn/airbag clock spring contact (A45) for damage
NOTE: Visual inspection, replace horn/airbag clock spring contact if necessary, Removing and installing horn/airbag clock spring contact.
10 Install in reverse order
11 Activate steering angle sensor
- Vehicles with ESP
12 Carry out road test
NOTE:
- Check during the road test: Resetting turn signal indicator
- When the steering wheel is offset by more than 1 tooth, satisfactory resetting of turn signal indicator is no longer guaranteed
- Airbag malfunction indicator lamp
- The SRS malfunction indicator lamp must not come on at full steering lock in either direction
- Position of steering wheel
- If the steering wheel is not on straight, offset it by a maximum of 1 tooth, if the difference is greater, check and adjust front wheel toe-in
