INSTALLATION OF CELLULAR TELEPHONE (CTEL) SYSTEM

A. Installing transmitter/receiver (mobile phone)

1. Unpack contents of installation kit and compare to parts list at end of Work Instructions. Read through entire procedure to familiarize yourself with sequence of instructions and pants. Remove Operating Guide from kit and place in owner's literature pouch.

2. Remove left rear wheelwell liner.





3. Set transceiver bracket into place on wheelwell (Figure 1). OBSERVE WIRE ROUTING SHOWN IN DIAGRAM. The two lower feet mount on 2 studs on wheel well. The upper stud mounts through a pre-punched hole in the hinge reinforcement forward of the antenna. Place two plastic nuts over studs. Secure upper mount with MS nut. Tighten all 3 fasteners.





4. Mount four adhesive rubber strips to U-shaped transmitter/receiver bracket (Figure 2).

5. Connect 25-pole connector to transceiver. Secure with integral thumbscrews.

6. Position transmitter/receiver onto trunk bracket with connectors facing fender, and antenna connector facing rear of vehicle.

7. Secure transmitter/receiver bracket assembly to main bracket using 8-18 x 3/4 screws provided with U-bracket.

8. Locate integrated cellular antenna cable in left rear wheel well. Connect to transmitter/receiver and secure cable to other harnesses, using cable ties.

9. Reinstall wheel well liner.

B. Installing Transmitter/receiver (mobile phone) model 210.2651.282 (Station Wagon), M. Y. 1998

1. Open and remove the right rear compartment panel.

For vehicles with Code 810 (Sound System) only:

2. Remove the three (3) screws securing the CD changer/sound system/cellular telephone bracket. Disconnect the sound system amplifier connector and remove the assembly.

3. Locate the 25-pole harness connector and antenna coax cable (cable passes through grommet in fender).

4. Position four (4) rubber strips onto the U-bracket as indicated in the instructions packaged with the bracket.





5. Secure the transmitter/receiver to the combo-bracket using the U-bracket and 3 M4 x 6 screws and nuts (Figure 3).
IT MAY BE NECESSARY TO DRILL TWO OF THE THREE BRACKET MOUNTING HOLES:
Remove the sound system amplifier. Position the transmitter/receiver on the bracket as shown (Figure 3).
Hold the U-bracket in place, with the single hole over the lower most hole in the bracket. Mark and drill the other two holes. Reinstall the sound system amplifier.

6. Connect 25-pole harness connector to transmitter/receiver. Connect antenna (cable passes through grommet in fender).

7. Reconnect harness connector to sound system amplifier (if disconnected).

8. (Re)install bracket assembly and secure using three (3) screws removed in step 2.

C. Installing Booster and Portable Electronics Module (portable phone)

1. Remove the left trunk liner panel, and locate 25-pole connector, coax cable from front center console and integrated antenna cable (passes through grommet in fender).

2. Secure booster to mounting plate using three (3) M 4 x 10 screws and nuts. The 25-pole connector faces the long leg of the bracket. If mounted incorrectly, the coax cable from the front center armrest (step 6) will not fit behind the trunk liner panel.

3. Secure the PSE module to the plate using four (4) M 4 x 6 machine screws through the plate into threaded inserts in module. The 25-pole connector faces away from the support leg.





4. Connect the 25-pole connector labeled PSE to portable electronics module, and 25-pole connector labeled "Booster" to the 3-wall booster.

5. Connect coax cable from antenna to booster connector labeled "Antenna".

6. Connect coax cable from console to booster connector adjacent to the 25 pole connector, using SAP to mini-UHF adaptor.

DO NOT REVERSE CONNECTIONS IN STEPS 5 and 6.

7. Connect 25-pole pre-wire harness connector to 25-pole pigtail from booster and PSE module.

8. Set bracket into place on wheel well. The two lower feet mount on two studs on wheel well. The upper stud mounts through a pre punched hole in the hinge reinforcement forward of the antenna. Place 2 plastic nuts over the studs. Secure upper mount with M5 nut. Tighten all three fasteners.

D. Installing Booster and Portable Electronics Module (portable phone) Model 2105 (Station Wagon)

1. Open and remove the right rear compartment panel.

For vehicles with Code 810 (Sound System) only:

2. Remove the three (3) screws securing the CD changer/sound system/cellular telephone bracket. Disconnect the sound system amplifier connector and remove the assembly.

3. Locate the 25-pole harness connector, antenna coax cable from front center armrest and integrated antenna coax cable (passes through grommet in fender).





4. Fasten the PSE module to the bracket using four (4) M4 x 6 machine screws. Fasten booster to bracket using (3) M4 x 10 screws and nuts.

5. Connect the 25-pole connector labeled PSE to portable electronics module, and 25-pole connector labeled Booster to the 3-wall booster.

6. Connect 25-pole pre wire harness connector to 25-pole pigtail from booster and PSE module.

7. Connect coax cables to booster:
- cable from front center armrest to booster connector next to 25-pole connector, using SAP to mini UHF adaptor.
- cable from integrated antenna to coax connector labeled "Antenna".
DO NOT REVERSE THE CONNECTIONS IN STEP 7.

8. Reconnect harness connector to sound system amplifier (if disconnected).

9. (Re)install bracket assembly and secure using three (3) screws removed in step 2.

E. Installing handset (HS) (mobile phone)

1. Open main armrest compartment. Locate two small recesses on underside of tray and enlarge using an awl. Close main compartment and open lid to smaller telephone compartment. Remove oblong knockout at rear of compartment by striking sharply downward with a hammer handle.





2. Insert plugs into two holes on topside of cradle. Press plugs in firmly so that they do not interfere with the handset.

3. Open main armrest compartment and fasten cradle from underneath using two M4 x 8 screws. Cradle must be positioned completely forward in compartment.

4. Route handset cable through oblong opening.

5. Open main compartment. Locate cover in rear of compartment. Open cover, connect handset connector to fixed connector. Route coil cord along recess so that it exits on right side opening. Close cover.

F. Installing handset (HS) (portable phone)

1. Open main armrest compartment. Locate two small recesses on underside of tray and enlarge using an awl. Close main compartment and open lid to smaller telephone compartment. Remove oblong knockout at rear of compartment by striking sharply downward with a hammer handle.

2. Secure cradle to armrest using M4 x 10 machine screws and acorn nuts in 2 forward holes. Nuts mount on underside of console.

3. Route coil cord through oblong opening.





5. Open main compartment. Locate cover in rear of compartment. Open cover, connect handset connector to fixed connector. Connect coax cables together. Connect coil cord to portable phone (Figure 7). Route coil cord along recess so that it exits on right side opening. Close cover.

G. Installing microphone

1. Remove dome lamp assembly (SMS, Electrical System III, Job no. AR82.20-P-0110F).





2. Measure and mark hole locations as per dimensions in illustrations (Figure 8).

3. Using microphone base as a template, carefully punch hole locations (a) and (b) to 4 mm using an awl (Figure 8).

4. Enlarge forward hole (a, Figure 8) to 8 mm so that the microphone connector can pass through. Pass microphone connector and cable through enlarged opening. Secure microphone base to headliner with 3 x 10 screw. Fasten back of screw with with speed nut. Pull microphone cable completely through opening. Place 2 fingers over microphone mounting base from above the headliner. Snap microphone onto base evenly. Do not latch one side first.

5. Connect one end of pre-amp cable (wrapped in anti-static foam) to microphone cable, the other end to the vehicle cable.

6. Reinstall dome lamp.

H. Installing in-dash controller (IDC)

1. Remove radio.





2. Remove storage box by pushing down on tab (arrow, Figure 9) while sliding box out of console.

3. Remove liner from framed lid assembly. Pry up gently on the retaining tabs (8) located on the top and bottom of the frame. Slide the box out of the frame from the rear.

4. Slide the IDC into the frame from the rear against the left side of the frame. Slide the small storage box (from the CTEL kit) into the opening to the right of the IDC. The projection on the storage box slides into a channel in the frame.

5. Partially reinstall the frame, IDC and storage box into the console. The rib in the console slides into a channel on the frame. Connect the RJ-45 connector from IDC to the vehicle harness connector.





6. Push the IDC assembly into the console until it clicks into place (Figure 10).

7. Reinstall the radio.

8. Test function.

9. Program telephone.





Note:
To avoid disconnecting a call when replacing the handset in the cradle, in order to use the hands-free speaker, the "Hang-up Off" feature (as described in the Operation Guide) must be enabled.
