Function of Checking Drive Authorization
Drive authorization is checked in two steps.
After inserting the remote control key into the key opening on the electronic ignition switch (EIS) control module (N73) the infrared data exchange is accomplished between the remote control key, the ESC and EIS as an authorization check. This check indicates whether the remote control key is valid for the vehicle. If this check is successful, the remote control key can be turned in the EIS.
After turning the remote control key to position 2 in the EIS, the engine control module receives power. Following secret data exchange between the engine control module and EIS, calculation of the data exchanged is accomplished in parallel in both control modules. These two calculations are then compared in the engine control module. If the vehicle is released for starting the remote control key receives a corresponding message via infrared signal from the EIS. If the check is successful the vehicle is released for starting. Upon failure to release for starting a DTC is stored in the engine control module.
