Removing And Installing Operating Lever With Cable For Parking Lock, Model 124.030 (USA) As Of 01/89

Removing and Installing
1. Disconnect minus cable from battery.
2. Remove left-hand foot mat.
3. Remove panelling under left-hand side of instrument panel.
4. Remove center console.
5. Remove floor shift.





6. Unclip stop lamp switch. Unhook return spring (54), remove retainer and release push rod from brake pedal. Remove bearing bracket (51) with brake pedal.

Installation Note
Tighten retaining nuts to 18 Nm.





7. Remove bracket with operating lever (56) by means of bolt (58).

Installation Note
Tighten nut for bolt (58) to 5 Nm. Push locating pin (figure to item 10, arrow) through locating bores and operating lever.





8. Check plastic bushing (62) for damage and replace it necessary.





9. Hook cable (40) into operating lever (57).





10. Adjust operating lever. Tighten nut (59) to 4.5 Nm; the roller (60) must rest against the brake pedal. Remove locating pin (arrow), and clip in stop lamp switch.





11. Route cable (40) to floor shift without kinking and clip in or secure with cable strap.

Perform remaining installation procedure in the reverse sequence.
