Disassembling, Assembling and Measuring Gear Set


Preceding Work:
Removing and installing transmission with torque converter. Remove and Installing Transmission With Torque Converter

Disassembling transmission. Disassembling Transmission








Lubricating pressure rings (95)
Remove. when installing, insert with grease.

Gear set complete
Place with output shaft in assembly pedestal 123 589 00 35 00.

Snap ring (3)
Remove and install using screwdriver.

Front planet gear set (2)
Take off together with axial bearing (23).

Output shaft (8)
Take off together with radial bearing (5) and axial bearing (6).

Axial bearing (9) and sunwheel (10)
Remove, install.

Snap ring (21)
Remove and install using screwdriver.

Internally-toothed disc carrier 1(2 (19) with freewheel
Remove complete from connection carrier (7), insert. After assembly, adjust end play of freewheel connection carrier to 0.05 - 0.2 mm.

Supporting disc (11)
Lift off. When fitting on the studs must engage in the hole in the freewheel outer ring.

Shim ring (17) and O-ring (12)
Remove, install.

Freewheel inner ring (13)
Remove and install counter-clockwise.
Take note of installation instruction.

Cylinder rollers (16) and detent cage (14) with pressure springs (15)
Remove, install and check.

Freewheel outer ring (24)
Remove, install and check.

Thrust washer (18) and O-ring (20)
check.






Note:
Transmission 722.417 is fitted with only one lubricating pressure ring (95) and has an additional bearing point in the front cover (arrow).

Special Tool

Special Tool:

Auxiliary tool (part)

Retaning plates (16 pieces) 126 277 00 73

Note:
Lubricate bearing points and sliding surfaces when assembling.

Disassembly and Assembly

1. Take lubricating pressure rings (95) off input shaft.

Installation Note:
Insert lubrication pressure ring into the groove with grease so that joint is together.






2. Clamp assembly pedestal into the vise on both faces with plate facing upwards. Place gear set into the assembly pedestal with output shaft ahead.

3. Take out snap ring.

Installation Note:
After inserting, press snap ring into the groove with a screwdriver after the front gear set has been fitted on.

4. Lift off front planet gear set (2).

5. Remove axial bearing (23) from planet gear set and examine.






6. Take off axial bearing (4) and input shaft (1).






7. Take off radial bearing (5) and axial bearing (6).

8. Pull out output shaft (8).






9. Take off axial bearing (9) and pull out sunwheel (10).


Installation Note:
Place sunwheel (10) into freewheel and turn. The freewheel must lock in the direction of arrow; then place axial bearing (9) onto sunwheel.






10. Turn connection carrier (7) and remove snap ring (21).

Installation Note:
Press snap ring into the groove using a screwdriver.

11. Lift internally-toothed disc carrier K2 (19) with freewheel out of connection carrier (7).






12. Lift off supporting disc (11).

Installation Note:
Fit on supporting disc (11) in such a way that stud engages in the hole in the freewheel outer race (arrows).

13. Take off shim ring (17) and O-ring (12).






14. Pull Out freewheel inner race (13) by turning in direction of arrow






Installation Note:

15. Press cylinder rollers (16) against pressure springs (15) and insert retaining plates (085) with offset end facing outwards.

The retaining plates are available as auxiliary tool under the part no.126 277 00 73 (16 pieces).

Insert freewheel inner race (13). When performing this step, turn counter-clockwise, then take out retaining plates (085).






16. Take out cylinder rollers (16) and roller cage (14) together with pressure springs (15) Examine parts for signs of damage.

17. Take out freewheel outer race (24).






18. Examine thrust washer (18) and O-ring (20) for signs of damage and wear.






Measuring

19. Check end play of freewheel and adjust. Check play between freewheel and connection carrier (7) with a feeler gauge.

Note:
For gauging play, O-rings (12, 20) must not be installed.

20. Set play to 0.05 - 0.2 mm with shims (22), then insert O-rings (12) and (20).

21. Place shims (22) into the connection carrier (7).

22. Hold freewheel together and insert retaining ring.
