Replacement of Complete Seat Belt Extender

Preliminary work: Remove side wall panelling in rear.

A. Coupe





- Turn ignition switch to position "0".
- Disconnect battery ground lead.
- Remove guide (1) from rack together with seat belt.
- Remove bolt (3) for seat belt guide fitting on B-pillar. (Tightening torque is 36 Nm)
- Disconnect plug connection (4) on control unit and seat belt extender (5).
- Remove screws (8) on control unit.
- Remove control unit.
- Remove screws (7, 8, 9) on seat belt extender.
- Remove extender.
- Installation is reverse of removal.


B. Convertible





- Turn ignition switch to position "0".
- Disconnect battery ground lead.
- Remove guide (1) from rack together with seat belt.
- Remove bolt (3) for seat belt guide fitting on B-pillar. (Tightening torque is 36 Nm). Before removing, mark the position of the mounting tab on the guide fitting with a felt tip pen in order to avoid adjustment. Otherwise the seat belt extender could scribe against the side wall panelling when extending and retracting.
- Disconnect plug connection (4) on control unit.
- Remove screws (5, 6) on seat belt extender.
- Remove extender.
- Installation is reverse of removal.
