SUBJECT: ENGINE 104 HFM-SFI
REPLACEMENT OF EGR VALVE

The EGR valve on engines 104 HFM-SFI may stick, causing the "CHECK ENGINE" MIL to illuminate.

On vehicles within the effective serial number range given below, the EGR valve (89) must be replaced during the vehicles next scheduled maintenance or repair.

Note:
In performing repairs, check the date code of the valve. EGR valves with a date code 94T174 or later are OK.

Procedure (SMS, Job No. 14-7662)

EGR Valve:




1. Disconnect vacuum line (89/3).
2. Remove EGR line (89/2).
3. Remove nuts (89/1 and 81/1).
4. Remove and replace EGR valve (89).
5. Tighten nuts on EGR valve.
6. Reconnect EGR line and vacuum line.
