Campaign - Replacing Soft Top Bow Actuating Levers

REPLACING SOFT TOP FABRIC BOW ACTUATING LEVERS

The modified soft top fabric bow actuating lever has been fitted with an improved copper rivet to prevent breaking and not a torx bolt as indicated in Figure 1, of Work Instructions 325 attached to S.I. MBNA 77/11, issued in January 1995.

In vehicles within the Effective Serial Number Range below (see list of affected vehicles found in attached Work Instructions no. 325A), the soft top actuating lever may fail and therefore must be replaced with a modified lever during the vehicle's next scheduled maintenance or repair.

Refer to the Work Instructions no. 325A for inspection and replacement procedures.

Replace riveted actuating lever (A, Figure 1).

1. Place soft top in soft top compartment




2. Unhook flap actuation linkage (1 Figure 2).




3. Remove flap (2, Figure 3 [mark fastening position on hinge]).

4. Close soft top, put fabric bow in upright position, soft top compartment cover opened.

Note
Before closing the soft top, the linkage (1, Figure 3) must point to the front so that any contact with the soft top frame is avoided.




5. Remove torx bolt (3, Figure 4).

Note
During installation replace torx bolt (3, Figure 4).




6. Remove lever (4, Figure 5) from soft top fabric bow, pay attention to washers (5).




7. Extend piston rod (6, Figure 6) by turning the lever (4), remove fastener (7) and take out the bolt.

8. Press in piston rod (6).




9. Unbolt torx bolt (8, Figure 7), while holding nut M8 (arrow) steady.

10. Remove lever (4, Figure 7).

Note
During installation replace nut M8. When removing the lever (4, Figure 7), pay attention to washers (9).

11. Installation is in reverse order from removal.
