Pulling out rear axle shaft flange

Tool In Installed Position:

1. Insert threaded bolt (010j), part 03, through rear axle shaft flange (10) from the inside and bolt on bracket (010g).
2. Place support plate (010d) on front side of wheel carrier depending on model.
3. Pass pressure plate (010f) with thrust bolt (010b) through bracket and lay against support plate (010d).
4. Position hydraulic auxiliary press (010h) between pressure plate (010f) and bracket (010g). Unscrew pressure screw (010k) on hydraulic auxiliary press, then screw in hexagon bolt (1st version) or hand wheel (2nd version, 010l) of the bracket until it touches the pressure cylinder of the hydraulic auxiliary press.

Tool In Installed Position:

5. Screw in pressure screw (010k) on hydraulic auxiliary press (max. torque 40 Nm) until rear axle shaft flange has been pushed out. Apply a hard blow to the bracket (arrow) using a hammer at 20 Nm. If the travel is not sufficient after the first pressing out process, turn back the pressure screw (010k) and adjust the hexagon bolt (1st version) or hand wheel (2nd version, 010i) on the bracket.

Note: Hydraulic auxiliary press pressure screw without shear pin, first version: Screw in pressure screw (010k) to max. torque of 40 Nm (corresponds to an extraction force of 12 - 13 t). If this pulling force is insufficient, the entire wheel carrier with rear axle shaft flange must be removed and pushed out using a stationary hydraulic press.
Exceeding the maximum torque can destroy the extractor tool and the hydraulic auxiliary press!

Note: Hydraulic auxiliary press pressure screw with shear pin, second version: In order to make the use of the extractor tool 202 589 04 43 00 even safer, as of now the hydraulic auxiliary press pressure screw is fitted with a shear pin. This pin shears off at approx. 40 Nm. This prevents the hydraulic auxiliary press from building up more pressure. The modified pressure screw with shear pin is available as a spare part with special tool number 202 589 04 43 11.

Inserting rear axle shaft flange

6. Pull rear axle shaft flange (10) into double-row angular ball bearing (8) using installation tool (08a - 08c, 08e, 08i).

Note: Make sure that the pressure plate (small, 08c), part 03, lies flush against the bearing inner race during insertion (arrow).
