Extension Housing: Service and Repair

1. Raise and support vehicle.
2. Remove transmission oil plug and drain transmission fluid.
3. Disconnect exhaust system at plug connection, then remove heat shields.
4. Remove rear transmission/engine mount, then the retaining strap and exhaust support.
5. Disconnect cable from kickdown solenoid, then remove bolt at pulse generator and pull out pulse generator. On vehicles with mechanical speedometer, seal off shaft.
6. Remove propeller disc to propeller flange attaching bolts.
7. Loosen propeller shaft clamping nut and compress propeller shaft as much as possible.
8. Remove select parking lock.
9. Remove double-hexagon collared nut, then pull off propeller flange.
10. Remove disc from around output shaft, then the transmission rear cover attaching bolts transmission rear cover. When removing transmission rear cover, ensure that kickdown solenoid valve is not damaged. If necessary, loosen kickdown solenoid valve and rotate slightly.
11. Using a screwdriver, remove radial sealing ring from rear transmission cover.
12. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Coat rear cover attaching bolts with non-hardening sealing compound and torque to specifications.
b. Torque attaching nuts and bolts to specifications.
