Valve Guide Seal: Service and Repair

Replacing Valve Stem Seals:

NOTE: Numbers in parentheses ( ) indicate a component or tool in the associated illustration.

1. Remove valve springs.





2. Pull off valve stem seals (19) with pliers (1) 606 589 00 37 00, or equivalent.
3. De-burr valve stems, if necessary.
4. Fit protective sleeve (2) onto valve stem.
5. Oil valve stem seals (19).
6. Press valve stem seals (19) on by hand with suitable installation drift (3) tool No. 119 589 00 43 00 or 104 589 01 43 33.

NOTE:
^ Exhaust and inlet valve stem seals and assembly sleeves are supplied as a repair kit. The assembly sleeves must be used to ensure that the valve stem seals am not damaged.
^ Valve guides which am worn at the retaining groove for valve stem seals and valves with damaged valve ends or valve stems must be replaced.
^ Valve stem seals with bent metal casing must be replaced.
