Replacing Oil Pump Chain

NOTE: Numbers in parentheses ( ) indicate a component or tool in the associated illustration.

1. Remove oil pan.
2. Remove spark plugs.





3. Loosen bolt (1) of oil pump gear (7).
4. Grind open (arrows) chain pin of oil pump chain (2).
5. Pry off with a screwdriver the plate of oil pump chain (2).
6. Connect a new separated oil pump chain to old oil pump chain with riveted link (4).
7. Rotate crankshaft with wrench socket insert in direction of rotation of engine, draw in new oil pump chain.
8. Connect new oil pump chain to riveted link (4).
9. Unbolt oil pump gear (7) and remove.





10. Insert jaw with the insert 2 into pressing-on tool No. 000 589 58 43 00, or equivalent, and screw on with screw (28) (Fig. A).
11. Insert moving thrust piece with the insert 2 into pressing-on tool (Fig. B).
12. Insert outer plate (5) into moving thrust piece (Fig. C).
13. Fit web (arrow) onto both rollers at riveted link (Fig. D).
14. Screw spindle (04) in until firm resistance felt (Fig. D).

NOTE: When screwing in, ensure that the pins of the riveted link (4) are guided into the holes of the plate (5) (arrow) (Fig. D).

15. Take off pressing-on tool.





16. Turn moving thrust piece over to riveting profile (arrow) (Fig. E).
17. Fit on pressing-on tool exactly over middle of pin (Fig. F).
18. Tighten spindle (04) to 30 Nm (Fig. F).
19. Rivet pins of riveted link individually.
20. Check riveting (arrows). Re-rivet, if necessary (Fig. G).
21. Install oil pump gear (7) with oil pump chain fitted with convex side facing oil pump (arrows), bolt on and tightening to 32 Nm (Fig. H).
