Removal and Installation
Model 124, 129:
Model 140 (Part 1 of 2):

NOTE: Numbers in parentheses ( ) indicate a component or tool in the associated illustration.
Procedure
1. On all Models, record radio settings and disconnect ground cable at battery.
Installation Note: Encode radio, model 140 normalize power windows.
2. Remove intake air scoop.
3. On Model 124, 129, remove fan cover ring by withdrawing locking pin and turning ring to the left. Place ring on the fan.
Installation Note: Ensure that the four engaging points are correctly located.
4. On all models, remove fan cowl.
5. Remove bottom engine compartment panel
6. Drain engine oil (approx. 7.0l).
Replace gasket.
Install oil drain plug.
7. Unscrew bolts on left and right engine mounts (a) from below.
On Model 140, unscrew nuts (b) of the torsion bar, lower torsion bar.
On all models, replace self-locking nuts.
8. Detach connector of oil level switch on left of oil pan.
9. Detach oil pressure connector so that it is not damaged when raising the engine.
10. Unscrew transmission oil cooler pipes from oil pan.
11. Unscrew engine oil cooler pipes from oil pan.
12. On model 124 and 129, remove torsion bar.
On model 140, lower torsion bar.
13. On Model 124 and 129, attach engine hoist to front lifting lug.
14. Unscrew drag link on left and steering damper on right, detach.
15. Turn drag link to the rear right.
16. On Model 140, raise engine with engine supporting bar.
CAUTION: Raise engine only far enough for cylinder head to be resting against component compartment wall.
17. Remove springs of front axle, install.
18. Unscrew bolt (1) of steering coupling, push steering spindle up (arrow).
19. Support front axle with vehicle jack adaptor (1), unscrew plastic covers over the two rear mounting points of the front axle.
20 Unscrew 4 bolts of the main mounting points at the front axle (22) with 6-sided socket, war 21 mm. Clean securing thread in the body with M14 x 1.5 tap to remove locking varnish of micro-encapsulated bolt threads. Use new bolts.
21. Lower front axle until it is hanging clear at the shock absorbers and at the top control arms.
CAUTION: When lowering the front axle, pay attention to the routing of hoses and piping to avoid damaging them.
22. Unbolt oil pan at crankcase.
23. Pull front axle forward and down and remove oil pan to the front.
CAUTION: Do not damage dipstick guide tube (1) and strainer of oil pump (2).
24. On Model 124 and 129, unbolt oil pan at crankcase.
25. Take out oil pan forward and down.
26. On all models, replace gasket, replace self-locking nut.
27. Install in reverse order.
Installation Note: Before bolting oil pan tight, align the contact surface to the transmission otherwise problems may result from noises and vibrations.
28. Run engine and check for leaks.
Tightening Torques:
- Tighten oil pan bolts-to-crankcase to:
M6: 10 Nm
M8: 25 Nm
M8: 40 Nm
- Tighten front engine mounting bolts to 25 Nm
- Tighten oil drain plug to 25 Nm
