C36 Crankshaft:
AMG C36 Model Additional Information:
The stroke was lengthened to 92.4 mm.
The counter weights on the crankshaft were reworked for clearance.
The oil spray nozzles were counterbalanced.
Procedures
1. Remove engine.
2. Remove oil pump.
3. Remove oil shield at crankshaft.
4. Remove end cover.
5. Remove timing case cover.
6. Unbolt conrod bearing cap.
7. Unbolt crankshaft bearing cap.
NOTE: The crankshaft bearing caps are consecutively numbered, beginning with the first crankshaft bearing cap at the front.
8. Remove crankshaft (20).
NOTE: Crankshaft bearing shells (24) in the crankcase side have an oil groove and an oil well drilling.
9. Install crankshaft bearing cap.
NOTE:
^ The crankshaft bearing caps are machined together with the crankcase.
^ The 7 crankshaft bearing caps are fitted at the side in the crankcase (arrows). The fit is off-centered so that the bearing caps can only be installed in one position.
^ Following bearing damage, the conrods must be taken out and any metal particles present in the conrod bores, the crankshafts and crankcase oil galleries removed.
^ Replace oil filter, oil cooler and oil pump.
^ The forged conrods are guided axially in the pistons (piston-guided conrods) (arrows).
10. Install axial bearings (22) and (23) in crankshaft bearing point (5).
NOTE: The thrust washers in the bearing cap each have two retaining lugs as an anti-twist lock. The oil grooves (arrows) in the thrust washers (22) and (23) must hold the crankshaft thrust sides.
11. Oil bolt thread and bolt head contact surface.
12. Tighten bolts of crankshaft bearing caps from inside to outside.
- Initial torque 55 Nm.
- Tightening angle 90-100°.
NOTE: Re-use bolts up to a bolt length of maximum 63.8 mm.
13. Lubricate conrod bearing cap with engine oil and install bearing cap.
CAUTION: Pay attention to marking. Install the bearing shells with the oil drilling in the conrod otherwise the conrod bushes will not be lubricated.
14. Tighten conrod bolts.
15. Rotate crankshaft (20).
16. Check clearance.
