E. Replacement of Exterior Mirror Fold Back Drive Motor: Overview

E. ALL MODEL 140, REPLACEMENT OF EXTERIOR MIRROR FOLD BACK DRIVE MOTOR As of May 1992 production, a revised mirror fold back drive motor is installed.

On vehicles manufactured prior to production phase-in, the new mirror drive should be installed unless the new mirror drive was already previously installed. Both sides must be checked. The new version mirror can be identified by the number 0340 or higher (eg. 0350, 0360, etc.) stamped in white on the lower side of the shield (arrow, Figure 13) above the toothed segment (visible with mirror folded back).






1. Pivot outside mirror slightly toward rear (1, Figure 14) and pull off cover.

2. With mirror in normal position, disengage tabs using small screwdriver and pull trim panel off (2, Figure 14).

3. Pull off frame (3, Figure 14).






4. Using plastic wedge, press off cover, (1, Figure 15) and remove insulation.

5. Disconnect electrical connector (2, Figure 15).

6. Remove screws and remove mirror assembly.





7. Disengage cap (4, Figure 14) and remove it over the mirror housing (5).

8. Disassemble electrical connector and fold mirror together.






9. Press off retaining clip (1, Figure 16) and remove shaft.

10. Remove screws (2, Figure 16).

11. Remove drive motor (3, Figure 16). Then remove screw and cover from drive motor.

12. Installation is in reverse order of removal.
