Procedure

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.

2. Remove floor carpet, footrest panel and side kickpanel (1, Figure 1).

3. Disconnect red SRS test connector (X11/13, Figure 1) located under the passenger side footrest.

Note:
Figure 1 is for layout example only, wire harness routing and control module location may vary depending on equipment.

4. Check harnesses in the area of footwell for damage.

WARNING!
If damage is limited to harness tubing, reinsulate with electrical tape. If damage extends to wire insulation (e.g. wire melted, worn wire insulation, broken wire) respective wire harness must be replaced.

Note:
In the event a harness must be replaced, ensure that replacement (new) harness is properly routed and insulated with felt tape as described in these Work Instructions.

5. Reroute the wire harnesses (especially SRS harness) which are in the area directly under the lower right corner of the footrest panel (near connector X11/13 [1, Figure 2]), to the area behind the side kickpanel. Secure the rerouted wiring harnesses to the existing harnesses (located behind the side kickpanel) with four cable ties (arrows, Figure 2 [mm. 8 mm in width]). Trim off any excess cable tie length after securing the harnesses. Ensure that the harnesses are routed away from the lower right footrest panel leg.

Note:
Due to the various harnesses and layout of electronic components located under the footrest panel, it may be necessary to unhook the multi-pin connectors (e.g. 1, Figure 2) from their mounting points on the mounting bracket (2) when rerouting the harnesses. Ensure that the multi-pin connectors are securely reinstalled into the mounting points after rerouting the harnesses.

6. Wrap felt tape around all wiring harnesses near the remaining three footrest panel legs (arrows, Figure 1) and those harnesses near the corners of footrest panel. Apply sturdy cable ties to cables (Figure 1) so that all harnesses are securely tied away from the area where the footrest legs will touch the floor (arrows) when reinstalled.

Note:
Use additional cable ties on the sections of the wire harnesses that were wrapped with felt tape (in order to better secure tape) when fastening to harnesses (Figure 2).

7. Apply felt tape completely around and on the bottom of all the legs of the footrest panel (arrows, Figure 3). Wrap the lower right leg (1), of footrest panel with a double thickness of felt tape.

8. Reconnect red SRS 10-pole connector (X11/13). Reinstall footrest cautiously, making absolutely sure that the harnesses are clear from the legs.

9. Reinstall side kickpanel, floor carpet and reconnect battery.

WARNING

When reinstalling carpet strip (4, Figure 4 [which runs under the right door threshold and behind the side kickpanel]), be absolutely certain that the carpet strip (4) is reinstalled over the SRS harness (near connector X11/13) and under the right corner of the footrest panel (arrow, Figure 5). In other words, the carpet strip should be sandwiched between the SRS harness and the lower right corner of the footrest panel, protecting the SRS harness from the corner of the footrest panel.
