Measures to Prevent Wind Noise In Rear Doors

Rear Doors

1. Tape over two locating holes in window frame with waterproof body sealing tape (arrows, Figure 10).

2. Attach 50 mm foam sealing strip, part no. 140 682 06 30, to upper window frame corner position shown in Figure 11.

3. Remove triangular window (refer to procedures described in SMS job number 72-197). Attach a 40 x 50 x 15 mm piece of foam, part no. 140 735 06 98, to the inside window frame starting at step in sheet metal flange (arrow, Figure 12).

4. Check double sheet metal edge beneath trim piece. If gaps are present, tape over equally on each side using 25 mm wide waterproof body sealing tape (Figure 13).

Note:

As of a production breakpoint of approximately March, 1992, the flange is made without gaps. In this case it is not necessary to perform this step.

5. Tape over both holes in the area beneath the triangular window frame using waterproof body sealing tape (Figure 15).

Note:

As of a production breakpoint approximately March, 1992, modified sealing frame has been installed (same part number). In this case it is not necessary to perform this step.

6. Attach foam piece, part no. 140 735 05 98, to the window support corner (Figure 16).

Note:

As of a production breakpoint of March 1992, modified sealing frames have been installed (same part number). In this case it is not necessary to perform this step.

7. Apply 15 mm wide waterproof body sealing tape equally overlapping each side to the entire length of the flange for the attachment of the trim (Figure 17).

8. Apply window sealant, part no. 001 989 31 20, to the outer sealing frame lip on the triangular window over a distance approximately 200 mm long in area b (Figure 18). This area is also shown by arrow (Figure 19).

9. Following installation of the triangular window, check fit of sealing frame to trim piece for flushness. If the sealing frame is not flush, adjust according to step 10.

10. Attach 300 mm strip of body sealing foam, part no. 140 735 07 98, to the window frame of triangular window.

Note:
This step is only necessary if the sealing frame is not flush to the trim piece (see step 9).

11. Attach body sealing foam, part no. 140 735 04 98, along the window stay in channel facing triangular window. Allow 20 mm of overlap at the top end which is then folded into the recess (arrow, Figure 22). Equalize the depth on the window stay using MB sealing cord, part no. 001 987 56 46.

12. Following installation of the window stay, press the overlapping foam from step 11 upwards into the opening in the window frame (arrow, Figure 23).

13. Press in a 15 mm diameter piece of body sealant at the top corner of the triangular window (arrow, Figure 24).

14. Attach molded rubber piece (arrow, Figure 25) to upper corner of window frame before installation of window frame covering.
