Fan Clutch: Service and Repair
REMOVAL:1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Unclip both catches (arrow) and remove fan shroud (1).
Removing The Fan Shroud:
3. Remove distributor (4) and set the wires off to the side.
Removing The Distributor:
4. Squeeze the plastic holder (174) on the sides (arrows) and disconnect along with the coolant hose (178).
Disconnecting The Coolant Hose:
5. Slide the flat springs (628) back and raise the fan cowling (198) and place it back over the fan.
Moving The Fan Cowling Back Over The Fan:
6. Insert an 8mm bit into the retaining screw (201). Turn the belt pulley until the retaining slots line up on the fan bearing bracket and the belt pulley.

Rotating The Fan To Line Up The Retaining Slots:
7. Insert counter-holder (Special Service Tool #103 589 00 40 00) into the retaining slot of the fan bearing bracket and the mounting hole of the belt pulley.
Using Counter-Holder Between Fan Bearing Bracket And Belt Pulley:
8. Remove retaining screw (201) and pull the fan (206) forward and out.
Removing The Viscous Fan Clutch Assembly:
INSTALLATION:
1. Place the fan onto the belt pulley. Insert the retaining nut and torque to 45 Nm (33 ft.lbs).
2. Place the fan cowling back on the radiator and secure the flat springs.
3. Place the coolant hose back into the plastic holder on top of the fan shroud.
4. Install the distributor.
5. Install the fan shroud and secure the catches on both sides.
6. Connect the negative battery cable.
