W4A020 Transmission
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.2. Remove bracket for oil filler pipe at cylinder head.
3. Pry off ball socket, then disconnect cable control for control pressure.
4. Raise and support vehicle, then remove engine compartment insulator.
5. Drain transmission fluid, then remove six torque converter driven plate attaching bolts.
6. Remove crossmember with rear engine mount.
7. Remove exhaust support, then the companion flange from transmission.
8. Disengage exhaust system at rear suspension and remove shielding plate.
9. Loosen propeller shaft clamping nut and contract propeller shaft as much as possible.
10. Pull cable for kickdown solenoid valve off of transmission.
11. Loosen speedometer shaft. On vehicles with electronic speedometer, remove impulse transmitter.
12. Disconnect floor shift control rod.
13. Remove fastening clip for speedometer shaft.
14. Swivel locking bracket for starter lockout switch in a upward direction, then pull plug from switch.
15. On models with selector program, pull vacuum line from vacuum element.
16. On all models, remove socket screw and pull out oil filler pipe.
17. Disconnect oil cooler lines and fastening clamp.
18. Remove transmission housing to engine attaching bolts. Leave one attaching bolt on each side of the transmission.
19. Attach suitable transmission supporting device to transmission.
20. Raise transmission slightly, then remove remaining two bolts.
21. Slide transmission towards rear of vehicle as far as propeller shaft will permit.
22. Carefully lower transmission out of vehicle.
23. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Torque transmission attaching bolts to specifications.
b. Install new sealing rings for transmission cooling lines.
c. Torque attaching nuts and bolts to specifications.
