Compressor Clutch: Service and Repair
Vehicles with Compressor 10 PA 17
Blower and fan cowl
remove, install.
Poly-V-belt
remove, install.
Spring plate (61)
remove with pin wrench 000 589 0 05 00, check gap 0.5 ±0.15, correct with shims (62).
Tighten to 16 ±1.0 Nm (observe Notes).
Retaining ring (63)
remove with snap ring pliers (external), install.
Poly-V-belt pulley (65)
knock off with plastic hammer, knock on.
NOTE: If the same poly-V-belt pulley is reinstalled, clean friction surface of pulley. If damage is apparent on the friction surface (e.g. resulting from overheating), renew V-belt pulley together with spring plate.
Retaining ring (69)
remove, install.
Solenoid coil (71)
remove, install; for this purpose open plug connector housing on refrigerant compressor, close (observe Note).
Disconnect negative wire from solenoid coil to refrigerant compressor.
NOTE: Position solenoid coil on locating pin, the tapered surface of the retaining ring should point toward the outside.
Solenoid coil
test. Nominal values approx.
warm 3.75 A
cold 4.20 A
Air conditioning system
check for proper function.
Special tool
Note for spring plate (61)
Pin wrench 000 589 00 05 00
Position spring plate on compressor shaft and tighten bolt to 16 ±1.0 Nm.
Check gap with valve gauge, correct with shims if required.
Note for solenoid coil (71)
To open plug connector housing screw out both screws (arrows).
Remove line to solenoid coil.
