Intake Manifold: Service and Repair

Removal and installation of intake manifold, replacing gasket

Removal






Disconnect ground cable on battery.
Remove botton engine compartment panelling.
Disconnect Vacuum line for brake booster.
Detach at all components which are connected to the intake manifold.

Unscrew line holding rail (5).

Disconnect Fuel supply and return lines (pay attention to note).
Detach bowden cable at throttle control leve.
Detach control pressure Bowden cable on automatic transmission eqipped vehicles
Detach throttle control linkage at actuator (only for vehicles with ASR or cruise control).
unscrew potentiometer for electronic accelerator (only on vehicles with ASR).
Remove dipstick tube.
UnscrewBracket (2, 2 off) at intake manifold.
unscrew idle speed motor.
Unscrew intake manifold bolts.
Take off intake manifold (10). Check flange faces with straightedge; machine on dressing plate if necessary.

Installation

Note: When installing, ensure that no vacuum lines and electric cables are jammed in between.

Replace intake manifold gasket (12).
Leak test of all connection points check with engine running.
Check and adjust throttle control if necessary.
Adjust idle speed check, if necessary.
Read out and erase CIS-E control unit fault memory if necessary.

Note: Stored faults which may originate from test work resulting from cables being disconnected or from a simulation, must be erased in the fault memory after completing the work.






Note: When installing the fuel line (arrow) from the fuel distributor to the diaphragm pressure regulator, ensure that the open-end wrench does not press on the air flow sensor potentiometer and damage it.
