Removing and installing belt/vibration damperProceeding work
Viscous fan clutch removed. Refer to Cooling System - Cooling Fan, Radiator - Service and Repair - Procedure Service and Repair
Models 124, 202: Radiator removed. Refer to Cooling System - Radiator - Service and Repair - Procedure Service and Repair
Models 129: Fan shroud removed. Refer to Cooling System - Fan Shroud - Service and Repair - Procedure
Removing and installing belt/vibration damper
1. If A/C fitted attach guard plate at condenser.
Note: Guard plate for radiator/condenser is a shop made tool sized approx 680mm x 400mm x 1mm
2. Turn piston of cylinder 1 to TDC so that woodruff key (7) in crankshaft is facing vertically up.
3. Slacken bolts (15) of fan belt pulley (17).
3. Remove poly V-belt. Refer to Drive Belts, Mounts, Brackets and Accessories - Drive Belt - Service and Repair - Procedures Service and Repair
4. Remove belt pulley of fan (17) and plate (16).
5. Install retaining lock for crankshaft/ring gear. Refer to Engine - Service and Repair - Procedures [1][2]Procedures
6. Unscrew bolts (5a).
7. Remove belt pulley (5) and vibration damper (6).
8. Unscrew bolt (1) with dished washers (2) or conical washer.
NOTE: Oil bolt thread and 4 dished washers (2) or conical washer. Fit on dished washer (2) with curved side facing vibration damper.
9. Pull off hub (6b) with puller (04) 103 589 00 33 00
Note: Align woodruff key (7), push on hub (6b) and turn in order to determine whether the slot in the crankshaft is aligned with the woodruff key (7).
10. Reverse procedure to install
Tighten M18 bolts of vibration damper (with conical washers) to 370 Nm
Tighten M18 bolts of vibration damper (with four dished washers) to 400 Nm
Tighten bolts (5a) to 32 Nm
Tighten bolts (15) of fan belt pulley (17) to 12 Nm
