SUBJECT: INSPECTION OF RIVETS ON SOFT TOP COMPARTMENT COVER


The support rails on the LH and RH are riveted to the inner sides of the soft top compartment cover. The rivets must be inspected for protruding steel pins. Normally the steel pins of the pop rivets break off within the rivet during the riveting process. However, in isolated cases, rivets have been found where the steel pins slightly protrude beyond the rivet head. The result may be damage to the soft top fabric.

When the below-listed vehicles come in to the workshop, the riveted connections must be inspected. If a rivet steel pin is found to protrude, it must be carefully filed or ground off (arrows, Figure 1).
