No Shift Out of First Gear

AFFECTED VEHICLES:
Vehicles built to 6/91 production equipped with automatic transmission 722.4 with secondary pump.

CAUSE:
No governor pressure.
Centrifugal governor drive gear could be broken due to secondary pump gear being blocked by the spring of Check valve (67), (item 25 in illustration), located in valve body lower cover (C), (item 13 in illustration).

REMEDY:
Remove and inspect secondary pump and governor.
If a spring is found blocking the secondary pump gear, replace secondary pump, governor drive gears and check valve (67), (item 25 in illustration).
