Strong Shift Jerks When Changing Gears

CAUSE/REMEDY:
1. Check adjustment of control pressure cable.
2. Check vacuum line and connections for leaks. In vehicles with diesel engine, check vacuum control valve and exhaust related components. (Disconnect secondary vacuum consumers if necessary.)
3. Check modulating pressure and correct if necessary.
4. Engine coolant may be entering the transmission via oil cooler.
A high proportion of coolant in the transmission oil gives the ATF a whitish discoloration. Replace all friction linings in the transmission or replace the transmission if necessary.

NOTE: The cooler must be replaced at the same time.
