A/T - Identification
TECHNICAL BULLETIN # 108BTRANSMISSION: 722.0, 1, 2, 3, 4, & 5
SUBJECT: Transmission ID
APPLICATION: Mercedes
To ID Mercedes transmissions look at the number stamped on the pan rail on the right side.
The number we're most interested in is the transmission type which can be broken down even further.
The version is used to identify the specific model of transmission, i.e. what car it's used in, shift speeds, pressures etc.
The illustrations show the cars that were imported into the United States from 1974-1990.
Note
The chart included with this service bulletin does not include gray market cars.
The transmission types are as illustrated:
There were four basic body types: the four door sedan, the two door coupe, the two passenger roadster and the "T" sedan or wagon. The chart also show which transmission was used and whether it started in first or second gear.
Note
All future Mercedes bulletins will be based on this information.
