Procedure:
1. Try to move the selector lever out of position "P" without depressing the brake pedal. If selector lever cannot be moved, continue with step 13. If lever can be moved enough to shift the transmission out of its parking lock, continue with step 2. If lever can be shifted into all positions, continue with step 4.
2. First ensure that there is no problem with the basic shift linkage adjustment. Check control rod, adjust if necessary (job no. 27-120).
3. Repeat step 1.
4. Remove cover under left side instrument panel.
5. Insert checking pin, 901 589 02 21 00, through holes in retainer and activating lever.
6. Roller (60) must touch the brake pedal but must not exert pressure on it. If necessary, loosen nut (59) and tighten it again to 4.5 N-m torque.
7. Remove checking pin
8. Remove wooden console cover.
9. Place selector lever in position "P".
FIGURE 2:

(42) to 5 N-m. (Figure 2).
11. Repeat step 1.
12. Reinstall wooden console cover and cover under left side instrument panel.
13. Depress brake pedal approximately 15 mm (5/8") or more. The selector lever should now move freely.
