SUBJECT: MODIFIED STEERING DAMPER AND DRAG LINK MODEL 124.230/290
REF. NO. 46/71
As of the chassis end numbers below, a modified steering damper and drag link are installed.

Since the installed position of the modified steering damper is reversed, the damping reservoir is now located in a thermally more favorable position.

Figure 2modified version:

The changed position of the modified steering damper requires a drag link with different mounting bracket (2, Figure 2) for the damper.

Figure 1previous version:

Note: In case of customer complaints with vehicles having the previous version steering damper and drag link, those vehicles can be repaired as follows:

- Install new version steering damper in reversed position (reservoir located at drag link).

- Check for free play between steering damper reservoir and drag link bracket (1, Figure 1).

Turn steering to right wheel lock, push drag link up and towards rear. If the clearance between the reservoir and the bracket is less than 1 mm, install the new version drag link, part number 124 460 13
05. If the distance is more than 1 mm, continue to use the installed drag link.
