Removal and Installation of Control Rod

REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION OF CONTROL ROD/CONNECTING ROD OF LEVEL CONTROL UNIT

Preceding work: Pressure oil system emptied. Procedures

Vehicles with level control on rear axle (Model 124 Station Wagon)





Connecting rod (7):
remove, install at lever on level control unit and torsion bar lever. Replace self-locking hex. bolts and nuts (7a), 10 Nm.

Ball joint:
check for wear.

Fixing bracket:
check for firm seating on torsion bar.

Vehicle level:
check, adjust.

Removal, Installation





1 Remove self-locking hex. nut (7a) and detach connecting rod (7).

Installation Note
If a new connecting rod has been installed, check and adjust vehicle level. Replace self-locking hex. nut, 10 Nm.

Model 124 in bore "b"





2 Detach linkage (7) from torsion bar lever (arrow) and remove.

Installation Note
Replace self-locking hex. nut, 10 Nm.





3 Check ball joint on connecting rod for ease of movement and wear.

Note:
It must not be possible to pull ball pin out of ball socket.

4 Install in reverse sequence.
