If there is any wear or damage to parts such as balls, steering nuts, steering shafts, power pistons, control valves, or steering housings; the steering gear must be replaced.
The reason for this is that the parts are matched to eachother in a selection procedure and, for this reason, a part cannot be matched with other existing parts. (Play between 0.006-0.01 mm).
Scrupulous cleanliness is essential when performing any work on the steering gear.
The work should be performed, if possible, on a plastic base. Do not use fluffy cloths; chamois leather is particularly suitable for this kind of work.
Following disassembly, all the parts must be washed and blown dry with compressed air.
When examining steering parts, always apply a strict standard. In cases of doubt, always replace the part concerned.
No repair work may be carried out on the steering gear 765.961 (model 140 special protection). If steering gear complaints have been received the gear must be replaced.
