Component Compartment Cover - Water Leaks

MODIFIED COMPONENT COMPARTMENT COVER
MODELS 124 AND 201
As of October (124) and December (201) 1986 production, a modified component compartment cover was installed in the above mentioned vehicles.
Effective Serial Number
The modified component compartment cover reduces the possibility of water entry into component compartment and may be installed on earlier production vehicles.
Note:
If moisture is found in this area of the component compartment, the modified cover must be installed.
Model 124
The modified cover (two piece) is attached to the cross-member in the component compartment beneath the windshield (Figure 1).
The upper portion of the cover, with water run-off channel, (b, Figure 2) is fastened tot he cross-member with screws. The lower portion of the cover (arrows, Figure 2) is attached from below to the grooves of the upper portion.
Model 201
The modified cover is enlarged on the wheel well side (Figure 4) and is mounted on the cross-member as before. The part number of the component cover remains the same.
Procedure
Model 124
1. Partially remove the component compartment seal.
2. Remove lower windshield molding.
3. Remove component compartment cover.
4. Remove component cover from cross-member, beneath windshield.
5. Install modified component cover onto cross-member, beneath windshield.
6. Install lower windshield molding.
7. Press seal back into place.
8. Install modified component compartment cover.
Model 201
1. Remove component compartment cover (Figure 3).
2. Remove existing rubber seal (approx. 8 in./200 mm in length) from right rear section of the engine hood.
3. Install modified component compartment cover.
