Knee Diverter: Description and Operation

The energy-absorbing panel (USA) is located on the driver's side (and on the passenger's side if a passenger's airbag is fitted) under the dashboard. It consists of energy-absorbing foam with an integral corrugated steel tube as an additional deformation element.

In conjunction with the driver airbag and the belt tensioners, this panel serves to further increase safety in the event of moderately severe to severe collisions.
