USAGE OF PORTABLE DEFUELER/REFUELER TANKER AND FUEL DRAIN HOSES

The MBNA Standard Service Equipment Program specifies using the Tempo Portable Defueler/Refueler Tanker. Below are instructions for modifying the hose end Of the tanker by attaching an adapter to allow the use of MB specific fuel drain hoses.

Operating instructions

Danger!
Do not smoke near the tanker or its operator. Do not use the tanker near sparks, open flame. excessive heat, or where any welding is occurring. Use in such areas, or failure to follow instructions, could cause an explosion and/or fire resulting in property damage and serious or fatal injuries.

1. Carefully remove the metal nozzle end from the existing hose of the Tempo Tanker. Do not damage the ground wire inside the hose.

2. Insert the ground wire into the hole of the adapter (P/N 210 589 01 91 00), then insert the adapter into the existing hose end.

Note:
The ground wire must make good contact with the adapter.

3. Use a hose clamp 10 secure the adapter.

4. Attach the 4.10m fuel drain hose (P/N 168 589 00 90 00) to the adapter.

5. The 1.50m M-Class specific fuel drain hose (P/N 163 589 00 91 00) can now be interchanged via the quick-release coupling.

^ For M-Class models, attach the M-Class specific fuel drain hose to the quick-release coupling.

^ Access the fuel pump (See steps 2-4 of WIS: AR47.20-P-5713GH).

^ Unclip the fuel return flow pipe (A, Figure 1), and attach the M-Class specific fuel drain hose in its place.

6. As a safety precaution against static electrical sparks, attach the external ground wire located on the side of the tanker to an appropriate grounding source on the vehicle.

Note:
Be sure that the tanker filter unit and hose are clean prior to use.

7. To drain fuel from the vehicle fuel tank into the defueler/refueler tanker, place the fuel flow direction handle in the "In" position. To pump fuel from the defueler/refueler tanker into the vehicle fuel tank, place the fuel flow direction handle in the "Out" position.

8. Be sure the vehicle ignition is in the OFF position.

9. At a moderate speed and consistent rate, pump the tanker handle to defuel or refuel the vehicle fuel tank. (Do not pump more than 10 gallons per minute maximum. Exerting excessive pressure on the pump handle, or pumping too fast, can result in pump diaphragm damage.)

Caution!
Do not overfill the defueler/refueler tanker. Observe the fuel gauge!

Use the tanker for one type of fuel only (either unleaded gasoline or diesel). The appropriate supplied fuel identification decal should be affixed to both sides of the tanker, above the word "GASOLINE." Do Not Mix Fuels. See the Tempo Products Company operating instructions that accompanied the tanker, for important warnings, safeguards, maintenance, and operating instructions.
