Control Module - (CIS-E) Corrected Current to EHA

91mercedes04

REF. NO. 07.3/48

TO: OUR MERCEDES-BENZ PASSENGER CAR DEAL

DATE: June 1991

SUBJECT: ALL MODELS WITH ENGINE 104
A. MODIFIED CIS-E CONTROL UNIT
B. MEASURING CURRENT ON ELECTRO-HYDRAULIC ACTUATOR

A. Modified CIS-E Control Unit

Since September 1990, modified CIS-E control units are installed which ensure that the nominal value of the electro-hydraulic actuator current is reached without time delay when switching on the ignition.

Under certain circumstances, the EHA milliamp value on previous CIS-E control units, of the above mentioned engines, could have been off by +/- milliamps from the nominal value for up to 15 minutes after the ignition was turned to "OFF".

Note: This condition did not affect the running of the engine, however, components could be unnecessarily replaced due to the ignition "ON" current at the EHA not meeting nominal values.

The modified CIS-E control units are exchangeable with the previous version.

B. Measuring Current on Electro-Hydraulic Actuator

When measuring the current on the electro-hydraulic actuator (after switching on the ignition) a deviation of +/- 13 mA from the relevant nominal value is permissible. After 15 minutes, with the ignition on, the relevant nominal value must be reached.

For nominal current values, refer to test and adjustment data in Diagnostic Manual, Model 129, Engines, Section 1.1.4.

If the current values meet the above mentioned criteria, the control unit is in order and does not need to be replaced.
