SUBJECT: INSPECTION AND REPLACEMENT OF TIRES MODEL 129


Enclosed is a sanple copy of a letter which all 278 allow vehicle owners will receive in the near future.

This campaign is initiated because MBW has found that same of the tires on Model 129 vehicles might have been damaged during processing by the car conveyor system used in the Jacksonville Vehicle Preparation Center.

All left front and left rear tires should be inspected for cuts on the outside in the area between the sidewall and the tread profile (arrow, Figure 1) on vehicles as per attached serial number listing.

Before mounting wheels, always clean the contact surface of the rim. When mounting new tires, ensure that match point of tire is in line with the match point of rim. For mounting of wheels, refer to Main Manual job number 4050.


Tires with cuts should be replaced with tires of the same make and type. They should be ordered and will be supplied at no cost directly from either Dunlop or Pirelli.
