B. Elimination of the 8mm Thread From the Outer Rear Axle Shaft

As of August 1993, the 8 mm threaded hole in the outer end of the rear axle shaft has been eliminated A blind hole with a 6.4 mm diameter is still provided.

Repair procedure





In the event the rear hub binds to the wheel bearing race during removal, an 8 mm thread must be cut into the blind hole provided in the axle shaft (Figure 3). This will allow for the use of the removal and installation tool to remove and install the axle shaft.
