REMANUFACTURED NIPPONDENSO A/C COMPRESSORS AND CLUTCH KITS

As of June 1, 1995, remanufactured Nippondenso A/C compressors and clutch kits will be available.

The W.I. 339, grp. 83 describes R&R procedures for the A/C compressor and for the clutch.

All remanufactured A/C compressors are intended for use with R134a and PAG refrigerant oil (this also includes compressors which originally used R12 refrigerant).

If a remanufactured compressor is to be installed in an existing R12 system, you must either
^ drain the PAG oil from the compressor and replace it with the applicable mineral oil; and replace the R134a label with an R12 label, or

^ convert the A/C system to R134a as per S.I. 83/81B (September 1994).

Remanufactured compressors do not include the A/C clutch. When replacing the compressor, it is recommended to also determine if the clutch needs to be replaced.

Note:
Approximately 80% of all compressor failures do not require a new clutch. Carefully check clutch for signs of damage prior to replacement. Clutch damage may be indicated by heavy bluing of the clutch or pulley contact surface. Compressors replaced due to complaints of "noisy compressor" or replaced due to defects which did not cause the compressor to seize, usually do not have any clutch damage.

Remanufactured A/C compressors are shipped with a shipping plate installed.

The shipping plate is to be removed and replaced with the manifold from the original compressor. When installing the manifold onto the remanufactured compressor, use a new O-ring. Prior to installing the O-ring, lubricate mating surface with PAG oil.

Note:
During initial shipments, it is possible that remanufactured compressors will be shipped with service valves installed. In these cases, return the core with the existing service valve and shipping caps from the remanufactured unit.

Tightening torque: 25 - 27 Nm.

WARNING!
The remanufactured A/C compressors are pressurized prior to shipping. Slowly release the pressure via the schrader valve on the shipping plate. Wear suitable eye protection. To prevent loss of refrigerant oil, position the compressor upright when releasing the pressure.

A/C COMPRESSOR CORE RETURN PROCEDURES

Securely bolt the shipping plate with O-ring from the remanufactured unit to the core. Pack the core in the original remanufactured packaging (compressors and clutches should be packed separately).

^ Warranty cores are to be returned to:

MBNA

A/C COMPRESSOR CORE CREDIT INFORMATION
Protect your core, thoroughly inspect the compressor prior to returning it. Core credit will be denied if:

^ the shipping plate and O-ring are not securely bolted to the core,

^ the core is broken, damaged, or disassembled,

^ the core is a non-Mercedes-Benz/Nippondenso product,

^ the core is not returned in the Mercedes-Benz remanufactured packaging, or

^ the core is seized or frozen (non-warranty cores only).
