Replacing Oil Pump Chain

Replacing and riveting oil pump chain

Preceding work:
- Oil sump removed. Service and Repair
- Spark plugs removed.




- Slacken bolt (1) of oil pump gear (7)
- Grind chain pins of oil pump chain (2) open (arrows)
- Lever off plate of oil pump chain (2) with a screwdriver
- Connect new separated oil pump chain to old pump chain with a riveted link (4). Part no. 000 997 14 98
- Rotate crankshaft in direction of rotation of engine with wrench socket; draw in new oil pump chain
- Connect new oil pump chain to riveted link (4)
- Unbolt oil pump gear (7), remove




- Insert jaws with the figure 2 into fitting tool 000 589 58 43 00 and screw on with screw (28) (fig. A)
- Insert moving thrust piece with the figure 2 into fitting tool (fig. B)
- Insert outer plate (5) into moving thrust piece (fig. C)
- Fit web (arrow) onto both rollers of riveted link (fig. D)
- Screw in spindle (04) until tight resistance felt (fig. D)

Note: When screwing in spindle, ensure that the pins of the riveted link (4) are guided into the holes of the plate (5) (arrow) (fig. D)

- Remove fitting tool




- Turn moving thrust piece over to riveting profile (arrow) (fig. E)
- Position fitting tool exactly over center of pin (fig. F)
- Tighten spindle (04) to 30 Nm (fig. F)
- Rivet pins of riveted link individually
- Examine riveting (arrows); re-rivet if necessary (fig. G)
- Install oil pump gear (7) with oil pump chain fitted with convex face toward oil pump (arrows) bolt on. Tightening torque 28 Nm (fig. H)
