All diesel engines as of model year 1985 are equipped with a factory-installed block heater as standard equipment. The electrical cable and the heat shield for the block heater, however, are not installed. The following procedure details installation of the cable and heat shield.

1. Lift vehicle.

2. Remove encapsulation panel from below engine.

3. Attach electrical cable to block heater. Route cable away from exhaust manifold along transmission oil cooler line using cable ties.

4. Install heat shield over block heater, with 2 new hex. socket screws and spring washers.

5. Route cable plug to a convenient location as per customer preference. Secure cable and plug with cable ties.

Note:
Ensure that cable is routed away from moving engine parts and sources of high heat.

6. Reinstall encapsulation panel.
