Owner Letter
April 27, 1990Dear Mercedes-Benz Owner:
This notice is being sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act of 1966. Mercedes-Benz of North America, Inc. has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety may exist in certain 1990 Model Year Mercedes-Benz 300E 2.6, 300E, 300E4M, 300CE, 300TE, or 300TE4M vehicles.
Under certain operating conditions, e.g. with the A/C on and below a certain engine coolant temperature, the plastic cover of the preresistor for the auxiliary fan may melt and possibly ignite the preresistor. As a precautionary measure we suggest the Climate Control System be operated in the EC (Economy) mode until the preresistor is replaced.
We urge you to immediately contact your local authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer for an appointment to have the preresistor checked and if necessary, replaced. This inspection and exchange will be performed at no charge to you. Parts will be available as of April 20, 1990.
Time Involved
Inspection only 0.2 Hours
Replace preresistor 0.8 Hours
