Paint - MS Filler Introduction

REF. NO. 98/28

TO: OUR MERCEDES-BENZ PASSENGER CAR DEALERS

DATE: June 1990

SUBJECT:
NEW PAINT MATERIAL "MS FILLER" FOR THE MB PAINT SYSTEM
ALL MODELS

An additional MB-2K MS Filler (mixing ratio 4:1 parts by volume) is
available for paint repairs to sheet metal and aluminum with shorter drying times.

Advantages

- The MS Filler dries 40 - 50% faster, even with thicker paint layers.

- Thickness of paint layer can be increased to a maximum of 180 microns.

- Improved properties (e.g. adhesion and resistance to stone chips) when applied to steel and aluminum.

- Improved corrosion protection.

- Easier to sand.

- The same hardener as for the 2K top coat is used, therefore no additional hardener is necessary.

Application

- Particularly suited for minor filler repair jobs on a surface or at an edge (spot repairs).

- After repair to an area that is sanded to bare metal (except galvanized sheet metal).

Specifications for Use

Note:
The present MB-2K EP primer filler, part number 002 986 26 10 with the respective hardener must continue to be used for the following reasons:

- Better corrosion protection properties on galvanized sheet metal, e.g. right front fenders of 124, 201 Turbodiesels (slotted fender openings).

- Advantages when painting replacement parts and large surface areas e.g. several parts, entire vehicle side or rear.

Note:
The surface must be prepared as previously, e.g. cleaned, de-de-rusted, sanded down.

Due to the relatively short pot life of 3-4 hours, it is recommended to mix only small quantities of MS filler as the remainder will become unusable depending on the room temperature and time elapsed.

Safety Procedures

- The 2K-MS filler is classified as a hazardous product.

- Review Material Safety Data Sheet

- Always follow safety procedures as described in section 1.0 of the Refinishing manual. In particular, use only in well ventilated rooms and wear supplied-air type (NIOSH TC-19C) respirators.
