Front Door Actuator

Removing and installing actuator (S47, S48, S49)

A. Front doors

a) Sedan and Station Wagon up to Vehicle Ident End No. A 391255/F 025885



- Remove door liner.
- Push back sliding sleeve (1).
- Press out shift rod (2).
- Slacken bolts (3).
- Detach actuator (S47 or S48).
- Press away strain relief (5).
- Disconnect electric lead and pneumatic line.
- Move actuator (S47, S48) into installation position by pushing sliding sleeve (1) back fully and withdrawing shift rod mounting (4) as far as detent.
- Install actuator in the reverse order.

b) Sedan and Station Wagon from Vehicle Ident End No. A 391256/F 025886



- Remove door lining.
- Slacken crank window and move into door shaft.
- Withdraw sealing rail on window guide slightly down the way.
- Unscrew bolt (7).
- Take off cover (6).
- Push back sliding sleeve (1).
- Press out shift rod (2).
- Slacken bolt (3).
- Detach actuator (S47, S48).
- Push away strain relief (5).
- Disconnect electric lead and pneumatic line.
- Move actuator (S47, S48) into installation position by pushing sliding sleeve (1) back fully and withdrawing shift rod mounting (4) as far as detent.
- Install actuator in reverse order.

c) Coupe and cabriolet



- Remove door liner.
- Unscrew bolt (7).9
- Take off cover (6).
- Push back sliding sleeve (1).
- Press out shift rod (2).
- Slacken bolt (3).
- Detach actuator (S47, S48).
- Push away strain relief (5).
- Disconnect electric lead and pneumatic line.
- Move actuator (S47, S48) into installation position by pushing sliding sleeve (1) back fully and withdrawing shift rod mounting (4) as far as detent.
- Install actuator in reverse order.


B. Tailgate



- Remove door liner.
- Push back sliding sleeve (1).
- Press out shift rod (2).
- Slacken bolt (3).
- Detach actuator (S49).
- Push away strain relief (5).
- Disconnect electric lead and pneumatic line.
- Move actuator (S49) into installation position by pushing sliding sleeve (1) back fully and withdrawing shift rod mounting (4) as far as detent. Push shift rod (2) away from actuator up to stop (arrow) when installing.
- Install actuator in reverse order.

Caution! Install only actuators with black rubber cup seal (7).


C. Trunk lid

a) Sedan



- Remove trunk panelling at rear centre section.
- Push back sliding sleeve (1).
- Press out shift rod (2).
- Slacken bolt (3).
- Detach and remove actuator (S49) with cover.
- Disconnect electric lead and pneumatic line.
- Unscrew cover (6) (arrow).
- Move actuator (S49) into installation position by pushing sliding sleeve (1) back fully and withdrawing shift rod mounting (4) as far as detent. When installing, push shift rod (2) up to stop away from actuator.
- Install actuator in reverse order.

Caution! On vehicles with trunk lid auxiliary locking device, install actuators only with red shift rod mounting.

b) Coupe and cabriolet



- Remove trunk panelling at rear centre section.
- Push back sliding sleeve (1).
- Press out shift rod (2).
- Slacken bolt (3).
- Detach actuator (S49).
- Withdraw actuator (S49) with cover (6) through opening in rear centre section.
- Push away strain relief (5).
- Disconnect electric lead (7).
- Lever off pneumatic line (8) from connection with open-end wrench (waf 7).
- Move actuator (S49) into installation position by pushing sliding sleeve (1) back fully and withdrawing shift rod mounting (4) as far as detent. When installing, push shift rod (2) up to stop away from actuator.
- Install actuator in reverse order.

Caution! On vehicles with trunk lid auxiliary locking device (coupe only), install actuators only with red shift rod mounting.
