Antenna - Improved FM Reception

MODEL YEAR 1990/91 MODELS 129 IMPROVED AUTOMATIC ANTENNA


A new automatic antenna with improved capacitive ground is available for pre - MY 1992 model 129 vehicles. This antenna is not applicable to vehicles equipped with the Tri-band antenna for the MB integrated cellular telephone.

In case of customer complaints regarding FM interference noise (not related to ignition or alternator noise) the guide tube (2, Fig. 1) can be replaced with the newer version.



Procedure

1. Remove telescoping antenna mast.

2. Remove automatic antenna motor.





3. Loosen screw (1) on antenna (Fig. 1).

4. Remove old guide tube by unscrewing it from the motor. Screw on new tube with capacitive ground springs (2, Fig. 1) and align.

5. Retighten screw (1).

6. Fit ground wire from removed guide tube onto new tube.






7. Position self-sticking ground foil (3, Fig. 2) on inside of fender. Ensure that the ground contacts on the antenna tube come in contact with the foil.

8. Reinstall automatic antenna motor.

9. Install telescoping antenna mast.

10. Test function of antenna and radio.
