Maximum No-Load Engine Speed Test

1. Install TDC impulse transmitter and connect the engine analyzer. Depress the accelerator pedal from inside of car to touch the kick-down switch or accelerator pedal stop. The injection pump lever should rest against the full throttle stop. If the throttle linkage does not line up properly, adjust throttle linkage.
2. Install remote oil temperature gauge. Run engine and warm to 75 - 85°C (167 - 185°F) oil temperature. Slowly depress accelerator pedal until it bottoms out on full throttle stop and read engine rpm. The engine should reach 5000 to 5300 RPM.
3. If the engine does not reach the desired rpm, proceed to step 4.
4. Check for proper fuel supply, open air intake system, boost pressure (overload protection), exhaust back pressure (trap oxidizer). If all these items are satisfactory, have the fuel injection pump serviced at a Bosch service center.
