Quick Test
Fig. 15 Electromagnetic Actuator Terminals:
1. With engine idling remove 2-pin plug from electromagnetic actuator for at least 3 seconds and reconnect. After reconnecting, the idle speed should momentarily increase above normal. If idle speed increases, proceed to step 5. If idle speed does not increase, proceed to step 2.
2. Apply battery voltage to electromagnetic actuator, Fig. 15, for no longer than 3 seconds. If idle speed increases, proceed to step 3. If idle speed does not increase, replace electromagnetic actuator and exit testing proceedure.
CAUTION: If voltage is applied longer than 3 seconds, actuator will be damaged.
3. With engine at idle disconnect 2-pin plug from electromagnetic actuator. Connect multimeter across pins and measure voltage. If approximately 12 volts is obtained, proceed to step 5. If approximately 12 volts is not obtained, proceed to step 4.
4. Check for and repair open circuits according to wiring diagram. Check overvoltage protection relay. If wiring is ok, replace idle speed control unit.
5. With engine idling, remove 2-pin plug from electromagnetic actuator and read idle speed. If the rpm range is 620 ±40 rpm, then the electronic idle speed control system is ok. If the rpm range is not 620 ±40 rpm, adjust idle speed.
